Qualmark endorsed operators can be booked with confidence, because they've undergone a detailed onsite quality assessment, and been found to be professional and trustworthy. As Hiking New Zealand has expanded over the years to promote what we believe are New Zealand's best hikes and adventures we have chosen many Qualmark endorsed tours. Those that are not Qualmark endorsed have been selected by us as they have been providing great adventures for a number of years and we feel satisfied they are professional and trustworthy.

Department of Conservation Approved
Hiking New Zealand has been approved by the N.Z. Department of Conservation to operate in public conservation areas. We passed environmental and safety standards set by DOC, and have been approved to operate in public conservation areas.
You'll only see the DOC Approved label used by businesses with a current legal agreement with DOC.
High quality concession operations offer significant benefits to conservation and recreation in New Zealand. As a concessionaire we ensure our clients leave no trace of their visit, our guides offer a fun safe and interpretative visitor experience of the outdoors which helps visitors to enjoy, understand, love and protect conservation values.
The concession fees we pay go towards the management of all natural and historic resources DOC manages. These fees provide jobs and income for many local communities throughout New Zealand.
Tourism Industry Awards
Tourism Distinction Award winner - Hiking New Zealand features in the New Zealand Tourism Awards Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is for companies who are three-time tourism business category award winners (since 1991 and within a 6 year period). Distinction Award winners are recognised and rewarded for continuous excellence in tourism. This prestigious certificate is evidence of commitment to consistently high standards. Hiking New Zealand was awarded the Distinction Award in 2002. The three awards Hiking New Zealand were awarded with were Service to the Environment (2000), Best Adventure Operator (2001) and Best Eco-tourism Operator (2002). We have chosen not to enter the awards since 2002, however, we may look at entering again in coming years.
Tourism Industry Association Member
Hiking New Zealand is a member of the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand (TIA) as we believe it is important to support and participate in key issues at an industry level. There are companies that sit back and wait for things to happen. We are not one of those companies; we assist TIA to be a strong and inspirational voice of tourism.
As one of New Zealand's leading tourism companies we were selected to be one of the delegates to travel to the Adventure Travel World Summit in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The New Zealand delegation's trip was initiated by TIA and funded by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) after the summit was identified as one that would provide significant value to some of TIA's leading, internationally active adventure tourism members.
