Sussex House Bed and Breakfast
Experience the peace and charm of the past in a fully restored Victorian Bed and Breakfast, one of Nelson's original family homes. Situated beside the beautiful Maitai River and only minutes walk from central Nelson, Sussex House has retained all the original character and romantic ambience of the era.
All of the guest bedrooms are named after world-famous composers, with each room having its own identity. Each room has a television, hair dryer, ironing board, the latest magazines and complimentary port and sweets. On the landing are complimentary beverages, along with wine glasses, chilled and filtered water and ice for your drinks.
Beethoven - The Beethoven room has two sets of French door onto the verandahs. It also has wonderful views over the river and down into the English garden. This queen/twin room has a queensize bed and a single and has a private bathroom down the hall. Bathrobes are provided.
Brahms - Another delightful morning room, this queen with ensuite is located towards the centre of the house and away from the street. Access onto the verandahs is via door on the upstairs landing. This room, also decorated in green tonings, exudes character and charm.
Mozart - Featuring a sunny bay window, this room gets the morning sun and also has an ensuite bathroom. Decorated in greens, it has a queen and a single bed, perfect for people travelling together but needing separate beds. This room has a lovely view up towards the "Centre of New Zealand" (Botanical Hill).
Schubert - Schubert is the only ground floor bedroom. It has a queen bed, ensuite bathroom and features a lovely sunny bay window with window seat. Richly decorated in cream and burgundy, it has a very soothing and peaceful effect on the weary traveller. As this room is on the ground floor, it has been adapted for guests requiring wheel chair access. It has, in addition, a convertible single bed, thus, sleeping three people.
Strauss - The Strauss room is a queen room with ensuite bathroom. It features French door onto the verandahs and has a delightful view of the beautiful Maitai River, both from the bed and from the verandahs. Decorated in blued, this is a very quiet, peaceful room.
