Highlights: To celebrate our partnership with Macpac outdoor equipment stores, we put together a new hiking tour each season. This season we have a fabulous 5 day all inclusive trip exploring two National Parks. This hiking safari is designed for Macpac clients and will be promoted through Macpac stores in New Zealand and Australia, however departures are open to everyone.

This adventerous hiking tour loops from Christchurch over two alpine passes with a 2-day hike on the West Coast back to Christchurch. You mostly camp but you can upgrade and stay in nearby motels on two of the nights if you prefer not to camp every night. There is the option join the group on Day 2 and ride the TranzAlpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth making this a 4-day long weekend escape.

Day 1: Drive across the Canterbury Plains to the Waimakariri Valley. Hike up Bealey Spur to a historic Musterer's Hut on the bush edge. Drive on to our campsite at Klondyke Corner and enjoy a delicious campfire cooked salmon. LD 5-6 hours hiking.

Day 2: Drive to Arthur's Pass and enjoy a short walk up the Otira Valley before heading on to the West Coast. In Greymouth we meet any clients off the TranzAlpine train that are doing the 4-day version. Stay at Punakaiki Camp Ground or nearby motels. BL 3 hours hiking.

Day 3: Today we head off for our overnight hike into Paparoa National Park. This hike takes us through ancient podocarp rainforest and towering limestone formations. Sleep in the outdoors under the impressive Ballroom Overhang where the crackling campfire adds to the magical atmosphere. BLD 6 hours hiking.

Day 4: Hike up a side canyon where some may choose to swim and gaze up at the impressive glow-worms and stalactites. We put our river crossing techniques to good use as we head down the Fox River canyon. The Japanese Bath House of Maruia Springs is a welcomed sight for any weary muscles. Tonight we enjoy a kiwi barbaque at the Marble Hill camp ground (or optional motel).
BLD 4 hours hiking.

Day 5: It is only a short drive this morning to Lewis Pass where we hike up above the bush line to the alpine herb fields and beautiful tarns of the Lewis tops. Have time to explore these tops before heading back and continuing east to the Historic Hurinui Pub. We arrive back in the Garden City - Christchurch in the late afternoon. BL 4-5 hours hiking.
