Hiking New Zealand and 'Macpac & Fairydown' have had an affinity with each other and a strong relationship for over 15 years. Macpac provides all tents and backpacks used on our hiking safaris because we believe their New Zealand designed equipment is best for the rugged New Zealand tramping conditions.

"When you are out there guiding five or six months of a year, good gear really makes a difference to your comfort and well being in the outdoors" states Hiking NZ founder Mark Brabyn. "New Zealand's weather is incredibly changeable. You can get a cold southerly front come up from Antarctica in the middle of summer and have snow in the mountains, so you always need to be well equipped." The outdoor equipment we use on safaris gets more use in one season than most people would use in their lifetime so quality equipment is vital. The use of Macpac gear also allows Hiking NZ to provide valuable feedback to their design team.

Since 2008 Hiking New Zealand has been contracted by Macpac to run hikes for its Japanese distributor, Goldwin. These have been 3 day trips with a journalist and photographer where we really show them tramping New Zealand style - above the bushline travel, bush bashing and river crossing.
