Few places on earth can match the unique natural setting of the Wilderness Lodge Lake Moeraki in the heart of the 2.7 million hectares South West New Zealand World Heritage Area, Te Wahi Pounamu ( Maori translation: the place of greenstone jade)

The Lodge is landscaped in a lakeside clearing surrounded by 1000 year old rainforest trees. It offers a high level of comfort in attractive Lodge rooms (all rooms have private bathrooms) with lounges and restaurant that overlook the lovely Moeraki rapids.

 A relaxed drink and meal in the tranquil Moeraki Lounge as you watch the river roll by, native birds and trout jumping is a wonderful tonic in a hectic world.

The highlight of the Lodge is a daily programme of nature discovery activities. Our naturalist guides will help you to explore nature and learn about high country life.

WALKS NETWORK
Our Lodge walk's network covers 10km (6 miles) and enables you to explore the Lower Moeraki Valley and seacoast. 

DAILY COMPLIMENTARY SHORT GUIDED NATURE TRIPS
Every day we offer two guided activities each about an hour long, included in the Lodge tariff. Choose from:

• Ancient Rainforest Trees, Tree Ferns and Birds … a voyage of discovery

• Freshwater Life in the Wilderness Lodge Rainforests … and feeding time for our giant tame eels and trout.

• Easy Canoeing in the Sheltered Inlets of Lake Moeraki … in our safe, stable minnow canoes

• Living in the Wilderness … in harmony with the environment.
• Glowworms, Morepork Owls, Freshwater Crayfish and the Southern Cross … an after dinner night walk.

LONGER OPTIONAL GUIDED ADVENTURE TRIPS
Alternatively, every day, year-round we offer guided wilderness adventure programmes. Join a small group and accompany our skilled nature guides. On safe, well-planned adventures you will get close to wildlife, learn about the forest, experience amazing scenery and friendly company.
