Discover
the real New Zealand!
Hiking New Zealand is your essential travel tool for New Zealand. Our
extensive line-up of tours, adventures and transport (we have over
30 hiking / adventure products), allows you to customise your journey
with an itinerary to suit your needs. Hiking New Zealand is run by active
hikers who are familiar with the tracks and love to share their knowledge
of New Zealand with you. Whether you like camping, a luxury lodge or sleeping
under the stars; whether you want to walk all day or just a few hours;
whether you want a three day or 20 day tour, Hiking New Zealand has
it all.
Our guided Hiking Safaris combine multi-day hikes (which New Zealanders call 'tramping') with kayaking, caving and camping to provide and unforgettable outdoor experience. Venture into remote wilderness areas to see nature at her best – vibrant rain forests, awesome glaciers, snow-capped mountains, limestone canyons, rugged volcanoes, tranquil lakes, and turbulent rivers. Seek out treasured wildlife – glow-worms in hidden caves, cheeky keas in the mountains, dolphins, seals and penguins on lonely beaches. Learn bush survival skills and environmental care. With a maximum group size of 12, you will travel with a small and social group of people, sit around campfires telling stories and playing games. You will also get to enjoy being involved in all aspects of the safari, decision making, cooking, and camp set-up.
The Hiking Tours cater for active travellers who enjoys comfortable accommodation at the end of each day. After a day of visiting iconic New Zealand locations, enjoying a variety of activities including cycling, kayaking, hiking, caving, viewing wildlife and glacier hiking, travel on to your comfortable accommodation, chosen for its unique New Zealand qualities in a spectacular location. The Hiking Tours range from 8 to 20 days and offer an excellent way to see a large portion of New Zealand. Accommodation and most meals are included (see Trip Dossiers) and optional activities allow you flexibility to choose how much or how little you pack into each day.
Hiking New Zealand offers Great Hikes that are adventurous activities in beautiful landscapes. From three to seven days long, Great Walks provide travellers with a challenging day of hiking followed by a delicious meal, comfortable accommodation and usually a hot shower as well! If you prefer a comfortable bed but want to enjoy some of New Zealand’s most spectacular hiking and scenery, then take your pick from one or more of our Great Hikes. Covering the journey on foot, by jet-boat, water taxi or kayak in a specific region of New Zealand, you will be guided through areas of pristine wilderness, rare beauty and awe-inspiring majesty.
Expedition Cruises to the Sub Antarctic Islands and Antarctica allow people to see and experience more than just mainland New Zealand. The eco-cruises visit isolated environments, viewing sea birds, penguins, seals, sea lions, whales and an abundance of endemic flora. With the focus on conservation, travellers can learn about the history and environment the islands have survived. Visiting these little-known islands provides people with the opportunity to advocate conservation and the survival of species that inhabit the islands. With only 48 passengers, a great camaraderie is formed and you will enjoy comfortable lodging in 2-3 berth rooms and excellent quality meals.
Hiking New Zealand hand picked Adventures are the perfect addition to your tour itinerary. Try your hand at a 4 day tall-ship adventure; ski across fields, high above the central South Island lakes; learn rafting skills, then tackle a river in one of New Zealand’s most isolated and specially protected areas. These Adventures operate from major towns or cities, offering transport to and from the start and end points.
Our Campervan and Car Hire options are the ideal way to see New Zealand at your own pace. Ever popular, campervan or car hire allows people the total flexibility and choice of activities and accommodation. HikingNewZealand.com offers a huge range of itineraries and suggestions for travellers who want to see the best of New Zealand in their own time.
Many of the
hikes and tours are operated by other companies (we run the Hiking Safaris
ourselves). They have great track records and we enthusiastically recommend
them. We’re sure you will find them professional and knowledgeable.
