ARTHUR'S PASS - A WARM WELCOME IN THE HEART OF THE SOUTHERN ALPS

 

Nestled in mountain beech forest, midway between Greymouth and Christchurch. Wilderness Lodge Arthur's Pass offers comfort and warm hospitality in a spectacular mountain setting.

The lodge has 24 Lodge rooms, an intimate restaurant, lounge, library and theatre for evening nature talks. Discover wild nature in the New Zealand mountains and experience life on a 3,000 hectare nature reserve / high country merino sheep station.

Walk from your room into a natural paradise of beech forest, tussock clearings, moss-lined streams and lakes on a network of nature walks. 

Four Alpine Lodge Rooms

Located in a secluded clearing these larger, luxurious rooms have privacy, super-King beds, spa bath, gas fire, lounge area, sun deck, tea/coffee facilities, fresh fruit, flowers, stunning mountain views, serviced daily.

20 Mountain View Rooms

Spacious with a queen size bed and a single bed, private bathroom with showers or bath, sunny views overlooking the Waikmakariri valley/mountain peaks, tea/coffee facilities, fresh fruit, flowers, serviced daily.

Activities:

The highlight of the Lodge is a daily programme of nature discovery activities. A naturalist guide will help you to explore nature and learn about high country life. Here is a sample of the activities available:

WALKS NETWORK
The lodge walks network covers 30km (20 miles) and provides a fascinating introduction to the mountains.

DAILY COMPLIMENTARY SHORT GUIDED NATURE TRIPS
Every day two guided activities are offered, each about an hour long, (included in the Lodge tariff). Choose from:

  • You can learn about beech forests, New Zealand's smallest bird, the rifleman, discover strange thorn forests and look for the world's smartest animal, the kea parrot.
  • Introduction to the Southern Cross and night sky.
  • Tussock, thorn forest and waterbird wilderness walk.
  • Meet Merino sheep, help shear a sheep, see the sheep dogs working and wool spinning.

LONGER OPTIONAL GUIDED ADVENTURE TRIPS
Guided trips introduce you to the wild heart of the Southern Alps. There is a small charge for these trips from NZ$98 to NZ$128 per person which covers your guide, refreshments (not lunch), Conservation Department guiding licence fee and equipment.

Your dinner choice from table house restaurant menu.

Full Breakfast of continental and home style cooked breakfast.

Free participation in shorter guided nature and farm activities

Use of lodge facilities and of network of forest, tussock and mountain nature walks.

Lunches are available on request for guests staying at the Lodge or who need lunch in the field on their day of arrival or departures. Choice of a packed picnic lunch or restaurant lunch. Prices available on request.
